Buttons - heaven knows I have a gazillion buttons and I love them! But, organizing them has been a challenge. I originally had them all in cute bowls from Anthropologie that matched my room so perfectly. I loved having them sorted by colors - but - I didn't have anywhere to put them! Then I started to see on numerous blogs how people were putting all their buttons into big jars and buckets and loved having all the colors in there. Sure - it looks awesome - a rainbow of colors. And then you just dig for the buttons you need.
Well, I decided to do it. I had that large glass open jar from Ikea and threw all my buttons in there (well, not all, but those that were open in my room). I kept it that way - for about a month - and never touched them. I HATED IT!! I hated the chaos of it. I hated how all the colors were messed up and that I couldn't quickly get the ones I needed.
Anyway - I decided to go to my old method of organizing them by color. So, my sweet little helpers came to the rescue. It took us about 3 days to finally get it all finished - Madisyn was the best helper! She loves things like that. Now, I have all my buttons in ziploc bags cause I need to find a place to put them. But, it makes me happy to have them all by color again.
So, that's my organizing nightmare for ya! I guess you have to try things out to find out what works best for you.
I am off for my fun weekend with my dear friend, Amy! I am so excited to see her and to hang out for a few days - with no kids! :) :) We've got some super fun projects planned that I'll be sure to share next week! I am taking sooo much stuff it's sick - I just want to be sure I have everything I might need or want to play with! We are both needing a break so badly so this is going to be so so fun! Can you tell that I'm so excited?
Hope you all have a great weekend! I'll be back Monday with some fun shares! Hugs!
I feel your pain! I have kept my buttons separated for a while now. But, after seeing so many blogs with pictures of them in one cute little jar, I ALMOST succumbed to the tempation to do just that. Glad I didn't...the practial side won out, over the decorator side. Just in the nick of time, too.

glad to hear i'm not the only one that changes my mind on this organizing stuff too! lol! i keep most of my buttons by color ... i keep them in large jars. but i do have some jars that hold a mix of colors ... like a certain manufacturer all together. sometimes i don't mind digging around .. but for the most part i love my buttons seperated! hope you had a great weekend!

I am the SAME way! I was determined to trash my buttons, but instead, I organized them by color into little ziploc baggies! And now I can't STOP using them. Weird huh? Anyway, have a fun weekend!

I divide everything by color. It's so visually chaotic to see colors mixed together. Hope you have a good time with your friend.

Hi Robyn, thats nice that the kids helped you like that and I'm sure they loved it! I had all my buttons too in a jar just like that. I recently changed my system and put them in the MM plastic jars and sorted them by size...large, medium, small, and clear. The reason I did that is because the small ones always fall to the bottom and its easier to just pull the buttons I need depending on the size. I had about 1/2 of that large jar so this system worked for me. I had my 5 yo daughter help me...she had a blast!
have fun on your weekend!
